The resistance to airflow inside the duct system.

Static pressure is the resistance air meets as it moves through ducts, filters, and coils — much like blood pressure for your HVAC. Too-high static pressure (from undersized or restrictive ducts or an over-MERV filter) strains the blower, cuts airflow, and lowers efficiency.

Why Static Pressure matters

Design terms matter because comfort problems often start before the equipment is installed. Sizing, airflow, and duct design determine whether a system can deliver its rated efficiency in the real home.
